Today’s restoration features this photo of my granddad and grandmom at their wedding - August 14, 1952. He was 22, she was 21.
Today's restoration features this portrait of my granddad for the graduating class of 1947 in Bellaire, Texas. A few years later he'd find himself in the trenches of the Korean War, where he got hit in the arse with some shrapnel. Happy to survive, he was stoked to return home to his new bride - my grandmom. They got married just before he shipped overseas. Granddad spent the rest of his life as an artist, outdoorsman, and a recreational pilot.
Today's restoration features this photo of my grandpa in the US navy during the Korean War. Pop looks pretty fresh here so I'm guessing this was taken when he shipped off to basic training on October 2, 1950 - or not long after. He served till he was honorably discharged on July 30, 1954.
Today's restoration features this portrait of my grandfather during the Korean War, 1951. Notice the handlebar moustache. He told me he dyed one side green, the other side red at one point. Why? Just to watch people do double-takes. Ha, Papa John always marched to the beat of his own drum.
Today's restoration features this shot of my grandad and his falcon, taken some time in the mid-late 1950s. The next image is the original, which was a very damaged color slide I developed at the home studio. I always knew granddad was fond of animals, but I never knew he trained a bird of prey. You never know what you'll find in those old storage boxes…
In honor of Mother's Day I've been restoring some old photos for a few family members. This one's a personal project - a portrait of my maternal great-grandmother, Mary Kathryn Brown. I believe it was taken in the late 1940s. This is the restored image - the next one is the original.
