This is a shot of my Dad during the Vietnam War. He was a squad leader with the 4th Infantry Division headquarted at Pleiku, 1966-67. Growing up, Dad didn’t talk much about his experiences there – from what he did share, it sounded gnarly. And if you know anything about infantry squad leaders, they are the backbone of our light infantry. He was lucky to make it out alive. Dad was promoted to Sergeant (E-5) while in-country and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.
